Commission publishes its report on trade defense instruments
On 28 March, the Commission published its report on trade defense instruments (TDIs) whose aim is to protect the EU companies and consumers against unfair trade.
In 2018, the EU completed a major overhaul of the TDI regime by enacting two new regulations on protection against dumping and subsidies. It also completed a number of important investigations, notably in the steel sector, and imposed three safeguard measures.
Since 2014, i.e. the beginning of the new Commission’s mandate, it imposed 95 trade defence measures of which 44% applied to imported steel products. Of all measures in place, 68% concern products imported from China.
