In March, the EU Home Affairs Sub-Committee of the House of Lords launched an inquiry into the proposed UK-EU security treaty.
The Law Society emphasised the importance of existing security cooperation mechanisms such as the European Arrest Warrant, Europol, and the Schengen Information System II, and urged the UK government to retain these mechanisms.
The submission also recommended that any new treaty retains the Charter of Fundamental Rights and maintains appropriate links to the Court of Justice of the EU.
