Broaden your horizons
The Brussels Office of the three Law Societies (England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) acts as the voice of the Solicitors’ profession in Europe. Situated in the heart of the EU district, we are well placed to represent the interests and views of the legal profession to key decision makers and legislators.
We are currently offering trainee solicitors, newly qualified solicitors and paralegals from the UK a unique opportunity to undertake a three to six-month secondment in the Brussels Office commencing in September 2020.
There has never been a better time to be in Brussels; you will be at the centre of the biggest political change of this century, which has momentous constitutional and legal implications. The office has already cleared with the Belgian authorities the legal details for the trainee scheme to continue.
As a trainee in the office you will assist the Brussels team in actively monitoring EU legal developments that range from competition law to criminal justice, public procurement to private international law. Specific tasks will include: preparing and writing the Brussels Agenda as well as drafting legislative updates highlighting developments in the corporate client and private client areas. You will also attend high-level conferences and meetings offering the opportunity to develop contacts with institutional and business stakeholders, including UK Government departments.
Social media skills would be an asset and very welcome, as the Brussels Office is keen to increase its visibility and impact on social media. The candidate will also be in charge of posting regular stories on the Brussels Office website.
Our trainees’ program has never stopped, even during the lockdown caused by COVID-19. Our trainees have been working remotely from their own homes. We envisage that, in September, trainees will be able to travel and work in the office, without being subject to quarantine. Of course, the office premises are fully compliant with all health and safety measures required by the authorities.
Anybody interested in applying will need to provide a letter from their firm/employer confirming that it will continue to pay their salary during the secondment.
Candidates are invited to send their application – which should comprise a CV, covering letter and confirmation from your firm/employer of consent to the secondment, to Antonella Verde, firstname.lastname@example.org.
The closing date for applications is Sunday 28 June and interviews will take place the week of 6 July by phone or Video Skyping.
If you require an information note or would like to discuss the secondment, please contact email@example.com
