On 29 January the Joint Brussels Office celebrated our annual New Year reception together with our office partners (the German, Austrian, Belgian, Luxemburg, Czech Bars and Bar Council of England and Wales).
We had a lively crowd of over 100 people in our office, consisting of members of the Bars and Law Societies, representatives from European institutions and other key stakeholders.
Andreas Schwab MEP (EPP) provided a stimulating speech, focusing on the challenging year that we have coming in the EU with the upcoming European Parliament elections and possible challenges that populist parties, fake news and Brexit pose for all of us in Brussels.
From the UK Law Societies, in addition to the Brussels team, we were delighted to be joined by the following office holders and senior members:
- Law Society of England and Wales: Simon Davis, Vice-President, Paul Tennant, CEO, Paul Wilson, Head of Regulatory Affairs, and Mickaël Laurans, Head of International.
- Law Society of Scotland: Alison Atack, President, Kevin Lang, Executive Director of External Relations and Michael Clancy, Director of Law Reform.
- Law Society of Northern Ireland: Suzanne Rice, President, and Frank Geddis, Head of Research and Governance.
Many thanks to all attendees for coming, we wish everyone a prosperous 2019 and look forward to seeing you again soon.
