The UK Law Societies’ latest briefing discusses citizens’ acquired rights in the context of the negotiations of the UK withdrawal from the EU. The briefing welcomes the priority given to the rights of the EU citizens in the UK and the UK citizens in the EU post-Brexit.
The process of leaving the EU will have far reaching consequences on the everyday lives of EU and UK citizens. It is crucial those affected by the changing legal systems are able to access the right legal advice from lawyers who can advise them on a variety of legal matters involving EU or UK law (or both) and represent them in disputes.
To make sure this happens UK lawyers must continue to have the right to provide legal services in the EU and vice versa, as they can under current EU legislation. Only then can we be sure the rights of EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the EU will be enforceable.
